A new piece on Forbes this week sheds some light on how Throne & Liberty is doing since its launch in the west last fall – and more specifically, since the launch of the Wilds of Talandre expansion earlier this year.
“Throne and Liberty players are some of the most engaged and dedicated players that we’ve seen to this point,” Amazon globalization design manager Daniel “Tico” Lafuente told Forbes in a new interview. “We are very satisfied with the current overall player counts. Talandre’s release brought a significant influx of both new and returning players, which was a key goal for this expansion. […] We’ve experienced a significant increase in overall player activity since Talandre’s launch. […] Playtime is up. Content engagement is up. Our players’ response to Talandre has been impressive. We can’t wait to see how they react to all the content we have coming the rest of the year.”
How significant is significant? Well, we can’t see console numbers at all, but we can see that on Steam, at least, the game has fallen from its 333K peak last October to a peak of around 50K in the last month. That’s actually up a bit since its low point in February.
Forbes argues that Talandre “nearly doubled” its active players and concludes that it has maintained the “influx” over the last month, but it’s actually petered off a bit. Of course, Forbes then goes on to compare the game (favorably) to much larger MMORPGs whose core PC playerbases aren’t even on Steam, never mind their console playerbases, so maybe take that into account.
