Last week developer DECA talked about the recent Axiom episode for Star Trek Online and how it was taking the baton passed by Cryptic. The second part of that internal interview is now available to read, and in it the devs get a little more detailed about Axiom’s specific beats as well as a little hint at the future of the MMO’s narrative.Play Star Trek Online for free

Once again the matter of legacy was forefront in the minds of the devs, not only in relation to Cryptic’s desires for the story but also ensuring that it felt distinctly Star Trek. That translated into a lot more exploration during this episode, but there was also consideration for the fact that this is a game and there needing to be a balance between “talky talky” and “shooty shooty.”

Legacy is also what brought forth the push to reintroduce career-specific objectives that took into account player characters’ chosen career, as well as their general affiliation with certain groups, though things couldn’t get extremely bespoke in the interest of easing workload on devs, writers, and QA.

In terms of what’s next, there obviously aren’t a huge amount of details being shared to avoid spoilers, but the team does point out that the title of Kings and Queens is something fans should bear in mind. They also acknowledge that the Khitomer Alliance won’t be fully ignored, and further share hopes for more player character-centric storylines after the multiversal war arc is completed.
